Will Selling Text Links Hurt Your SERP

How so?

A link broker approached me about selling text links on my site. It seems like I can earn some good cash from it but I am concerned it may affect my search engine ranking.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

The more outgoing links you have from your site, the lower the PR benefit you pass to your own pages.

So, if PR is important to you, it will suffer slightly.

More worrying though is keyword relevency.

A widget site with links to a dating site is going to lose widget keyword/theme weight and hence your SERPS will suffer.

I have noticed that most website which is selling the text link are high pagerank which they have enough pagerank for archieve their rankings' goal.

I dont really think pagerank has anything to do with your ranking anymore - at least not the public ragerank

Surprised no one asked: Are the links relevant to your site? Even better, are they focused on your keywords?

I would link to established sites or new sites of high quality only. Don't seed million page affiliate sites with your PR.

Another Q to ask yourself, if you're going to sell text advertising from your site that's relevant to your users: Does anyone other than the link broker thinks there is a need for the broker's services?

Brokers play a needed role.

Its a pain to manage multiple advertiser individually. Plus, people go to the brokers to buy the link and they can commaned better prices.

Its worth 50% rake.
