I'm neck deep in request for reciprocal links - almost never do them

We have some old internet properties that we continually get an amazing amount of reciprocal link request for.

We never do them anymore and early on it was difficult to find good sites to partner with that sent significant traffic and remained online long term.

But we are looking to expand and I always like to try new things ... what if we create extremely targeted directory sites for exact niche markets (higly competitive keywords) and spend the dollars to get a decent amount of traffic to them ... and sell links

what's a link like that worth per month / per year

i know it all depends on the subject and the amount of targeted visitors that see your link ... but let's say better than average service on my end

can't promise the moon and stars cuz this approach takes time, but what are your thoughts

or perhaps we could go with both free and paid links with the paid ones getting better placement / exposure

it really depends, as you send in your post. Very dificlt to predict. Advertising could be $1 a month or $100 a month or even more. You never know the worth..!

What page will the links be on?
Where on the page will they be?
What is a lot of traffic?
What will the link include (text + information, etc)?

These are important questions to determine a value.
