PR Value of Free Directory Links- Low PR

I realize that low PR free Directories have a low value for PR on their own, but:

1) What if you get 100 low PR free directory links will they add up together to be something helpful?

2) Is getting into a low PR free directory link an invetsment for the future (as in it the directory may have a higher PR later)?

Don't concern yourself with PR. Concern yourself with issues of quality and quantity. By quality I mean to investigate the backlinks of where that PR is coming from, as well as who else they are linking to. By quantity, I mean a lot. Quantity of anchors are important. Quantity of links will assure a good spidering and hopefully a good indexing.

Quality and Quantity are the things you should be concerned about. PR is not a good metric. For instance, a pr 5 golf directory with a single PR 6 backlink from an SEO blog is not good. How well spidered do you think that site is going to be, with one single link? Do you see what I mean when I say that PR is NOT a good metric?

A pr 3 golfing dircectory with backlinks from hundreds of golfing sites would actually be better. Hundreds of backlinks will mean that that directory is actively being spidered, which means that your listing will be actively spidered. It is more likely to have traffic to send to you because it is so well known (linked to from hundreds of other sites).

These kinds of issues are why a pr 6 or 7 doesn't neccesarily translate into better ranking. PR is not a metric for link development.

However, I still wonder about my actual question. Will a link from 100 low quality sites be of any help to me?

When I say low quality I don't mean link farms etc only new sites that are not yet of a high quality.

I would say as long as the pages are not dynamic, are indexed in google, and have no java redirects the more the better. During the last PR update a lot of sites that are brand new to the WWW (I mean weeks old) recieved PR values between 2-5. If you have several links from a newer site or directory this time around it would seem logical that their PR would increase over time.

Now if it came down to paying for these "100 low quality links" I would not waste my money. If the site is offering them one-way I would say jump on it.

When looking for links always judge quality first, PR and quantity second. Hope my thoughts were of assistance!

How to determine the quality of Directory? Almost Directory is reviewed the submission website by human right? If Google think this kind of submission is checking by human would be enough for filtered the spam site.

Do you mean in your post that Google likes human edited directories so don't worry about any bad effects?

Thank you David. Yes I mean the Google might love human-edited directory because the moderator of Directory can be screen out the spam site. Almost Directory has many rules about submission and also not free. The directory almost strict to put anywhere in directory just allow to place in right category so that helps search engine to determine the theme of website.

I was wondering the same thing about low PR directories. I got a link to one back in November and it has raised from a PR 1 to PR 3. So at least in this one case, it helped out.

a: Google is not the only search engine. They may be the biggest, but don't think from a "PR" standpoint as MB said - PR only exists to one engine.
b: if these are one way links, I'd most certainly take them
c: if they require recips, do it if you feel the site has value, not PR
