Q.1. I have read that some sites that are new and when launched may be looked at as spam because of all the inbound links pointing to them. The engines see this as a new site trying to manipulate the engines and inturn get penalized.
Q. So my question is, how many links would be a good starting point to have when it is launched for the first time?
Q.2. I wanted to join a link exchange. The site states that your site will be placed on their 4000 sites.
Q. Will this be looked as having too many links because of all the sites pointing back at my site? (Looked at as spam. I'm speaking as far as being a new site and being penalized.)
**Please answer each question as i really have not found any more information on this.
All advice is welcome:)
Thank you very much for your help.

If not - and I would think they wouldn't - then what you are doing is going to be considered by Google etc. to be questionable behavior. And that can be very risky.
So if you try it, don't complain about getting banned from Google.
