Hi - new to the site, look forward to chatting and picking up tips. My first question, and I hope you'll be patient with me, I am thinking of offering a linking service for other websites in the <WIDGET> field, but I am unsure just how to manage other people's link pages. I have Recip Manager on my own site, that's easy enough for my site, but how do I control someone else's site? Do they need to give me access to their site, 'round the back', as it were. I'd really appreciate some input, or point me in the right direction. Thanks again.

You would gain access to the other site through ftp. Im not sure how your publishing your site but to do it manually people use software like "Smart FTP". Its free and easy to use. Google it :)

After installing you would need to connect to their site. You need their address (ftp.theirsite.com),username, and password.

I think the recip manager your talking about is php. You would have to upload all the files and than install. And away you go

the way we prefer to do it is through a centralized DB that is dynamically accessible to all sites with an active link directory.

It's pretty simple actually. On the mother site you post the link directory for every site in your club, all the pages for each site, and then you run another script on each of the club sites that dynamically pulls the data from the mother site.

robots ban and noindex the pages, and don't link to it from anywhere, ever.

Write this inhouse. I don't know of anyone offering it in package form.

rpcarter - Offhand, I think this sounds like a recipe for disaster. The temptations to get sloppy about who links to whom are going to be overwhelming. Unless the field is huge and the linking is done with immaculate care and wisdom, the engines will be onto the whole network pretty quickly.
