Gidday All,

Just a friendly notice, information on this may have had been posted way back when, but as the site search is dead and I'm lazy .....

I just registerd a TLD .net address, with an Australian contact email address as my contact (compulsory by Australian law, TLD or not), and within two days, got a spam from an affiliate/site/link/builder, .... you know the kind.

So, it got me thinking, do affiliates and link building SEOs on such fora as WebmasterWorld know that Australian Anti Spam law applies to them if they send unsoliciated messages to Australian accessed accounts?

Betcha you don't! ;)

You may or may not have already heard of Australia's anti-spam law - the Spam Act 2003.

If you are in the habit of sending out unsolicited emails (even one, even to an email address you "found" on a web site), to Australian email addresses, then you need to know about this:

[internet.aca.gov.au...]

Hope this is useful, it's just a starting point from the compliance "horses mouth" web site, you can find more by searching of course.

Wouldn't want to see any mates on WebmasterWorld get caught out!

Just how does a (for example) British citizen come under the provisions of an Australian law though?

If I live in the UK, then I am subject to UK (and European) law - not Australian law.

Yes - the government could try to extradite me from the UK, but do you honestly see that happening?

Well, actually, for the spam kings around here....

How about the next pub conference is held in Melbourne!
