Outgoing links per page

Is there a sensible limit?

One of our sites has several PR7 pages and we have recently been contacted by a couple of text link brokers that wish to purchase text links on these pages.

They're paying quite good rates so decided to give it a go. My question is what is a sensible limit for outgoing links before Google starts to penalize you? The last thing I want to do is lose the PR.

At the moment I have capped all outgoing links (text and graphic) at 20 per page.

If you have a PR5 page that has 10 external links and you add 10 more it does not reduce the page to PR4 ...

What you need to be concerned about is deluting the PR from that page that goes back to your home page or to other sites that don't return the PR.

For example if we consider PR being a non log function and the page has 10 links each link gets a .1 PR boost or 1/10 ... if it has 20 links each link gives .05 or 1/20 ....so in a pure non log world if you had 10 links with one returning to your site and add 9 more you should add 1 so at 20 links you have 2 links returning to your site ... the same 1 out of 10 links remains to your site. But then again some of those external sites may link back those links help you ...

But in natural structures echoed in math log functions become important ... its not just a 1 to 10 consideration.

Keep the page size below 50K and makes sure you have alot of text for each link. Normally that means less than 100 links ... making it 25 links per page makes many other sites very happy (although there is no clear reason for them to feel that way)

If you have a lot of links in a page, when you go to ask somebody make a link exchange with you, they might not interested in your website because the value of pagerank passing throughout that page will be reduced.
