Hey,

I am wondering what different forms of links that Google considers different.

I wanted reciprocal link partners to link to my page by either:

[example.com...]

or

www.example.com

I noticed though that when I type in my URL as www.example.com it actually resolves to www.example.com/

Now I am sure that google would consider the non slash url and the slash url different.

Is a good rule of thumb to use whatever the domain ends up on as the link? This is assuming that simple non php links are used.

Thoughts?

Yes, it's a good idea.

along the same lines, i was wondering:

is it okay to have a link open up a new browser window - is such a link discounted to a certain degree?

thanks, subbu.

No. I've never seen anyone suggest that opening a link in a new window affected rankings.

As long as the link is a direct link, I don't think it will be affected by having a new window open.

The only problem with having your links open in a new window is pop-up blockers. Although you can tell your visitors to hold down the 'Shift' button, when they click, if they have trouble opening the links. Other than this, it doesn't make a difference.

There are many kinds of popup blockers but the standard ones in IE and firewall software I use allow new windows to open. My Google preferences are always to open results in a new window.
