I came across a site which offers to place your text link on the homepage of high PR site for a certain fee (less than 20 dollars)

The more links you order for placing your url across different sites the higher you pay

I wanted to know if its worth the effort for buying links or is it just a scam

The site selling this service is popular and has a homepage PR of 7

  • Decide what you're buying links for

  • If it's PR the only thing it may help you with is getting spidered quickly and more frequently.

  • If you're buying for advertising, check the traffic using alexa or another service. Not 100% accurate but it can give you an aproximate value.

  • If you're buying for link popularity, more links across more domains is usually better, not always but usually.

  • Check the backlinks of the website using Y! or MSN, be on the lookout for things that look odd.

  • Check to see if you're link is straight HTML, and not a javascript or CGI redirect.

Trust your gut, if you feel like you're getting snookered, or it sounds to good to be true ... walk away
