I got an email today from one of these link building companies that made me laugh, quote:
I am contacting you about cross linking. I am interested in <DOMAIN REMOVED> because it looks like it's relevant to a site for which I am seeking links.

And here is the entire contents of my website (as its been since 02/2004) that they want to exchange links with:

We get lots of these spam emails, usually asking "respectfully to exchange links", they all just go in the W file...

We link to sites that provide relevant information of use to the users of our site, we don't ask for reciprocal links, and certainly don't deal with link farms.
