301 3 sites into a 4th site

Do you get the value of all the links?

If I take 3 smaller related sites and 301 them to a 4th site; what will the outcome be from a backlink perspective?

I've done it a while back, and EVENTUALLY (3 months or so) the backlinks xfer. Not what sure happens with new 301s in 2005 tho.

I presume it still differs by SE. My educated guess is::
- MSN, assume they all count towards one large link total
- Yahoo, as of Nov seems to work fine, but not sure if full value is carried.
- Google, pretty unclear -- best I've been able to figure out is that after a few months you get the PR, but maybe not the anchor text. Not sure what happens to age of link.

Assume it would be smart to 301 these to individual pages within the site (1 to home, 2 to othere pages.). Assume to that it would be smart to ensure topic areas of landing pages overlap
e.g.
find a topic on landing page that relates the old site to the new site.

Oh and finally, any big ol' danger signals to watch out for?

Comments anyone?

Best,
CF

If site 4 is a new one, it will be sandboxed, even if 1, 2, and 3 weren't. G will recognize the old links and pass PR. -- based on my experience with a single site redirect, not a triple, though.
