Hi,
I was wondering a bit here and would like to ask you.

In Google, when I type LINK:www.dom.com it shows about 300 links to a competitor's website.

When I type LINK¦www.dom.com it brings about 3000 pages.

Now I know that link: shows only backlinks and link¦ every page where domain name appears.

So my question is this.

Is it enough for me to get links from those 300 backlinks in google to rank as high as my competitor
or
I still need to get those 3000, which don't count as backlinks. Are they still important for ranking?

Thanx.

Don't be so sure that they do not count as backlinks. Google only lists a sampling of the backlinks and it's usually the lower quality links.

Thanks coconutz,

I heard people saying that google somehow tries to trick webmasters by showing lower quality backlinks, but didn't realy believe that.

I guess that a tough job is waiting for me...

Whether the aim of Google is to trick webmasters or not, the links displayed tend towards what appear to be very low quality links.

So if I use link¦www.domain.com, then it will display all links pointing to a website, right? There'll be no more hidden ones?
If not, what is the best tool for checking all backlinks to a site, in order of quality?

I've seen evidence of something like this but I wouldn't necessarily call the results they show lower quality. I believe that there are certain ways to trigger placement in the backlink operator results. I have made a few observations:

1) 98% of links which I would deem as being high quality due to topical match, location on site or TBPR will not show.
2) Links from C-class IP banks show immediately.
3) Links that were part of a run-of-the-site text purchase show immediately.
4) Internal links will generally always show.

Take a spreadsheet of all your known citations out there and apply some sort of score to each. Sort your list based on your criteria. Compare that list with what Google is showing you at the moment. The results are staggering.

I think that there is a lot more information to be taken from the current backlink operator than most realize. A lot more.

I use a link popularity program that searches 7 major engines. I find it very interesting that yahoo provides about 7 times as many links as Google and MSN often provides a lot more than Yahoo.
