Just lost my main linker - help!

Ok I was advertising on a site for six months for PR and am now at 5 but he has increased the price for text ad fivefold and I'm going to drop it now I have the PR I wanted.

How do I go about sustaining that rank now? I don't want it to suddenly plummet and I want to make the most of it while it is still relatively high. Where do I start?

Buy another link of equal value. Buying text links is effective as long as you continue buying them. While I have and do purchase text links, I follow on with unpaid link building. If you have great content, this is not a problem.

Have 30 main linkers rather than 1. Comes back to the old 'eggs in one basket' saying.

Was the amount you were spending enough to pay a link dev company to get you lots of new links?

I dunno - I was spending $350 per month for the link. It sold at auction last night for $1500 - it's worthless except for pagerank so whoever got it will be in for a nasty shock. What do you think I could do with that budget?

How about spending that monthly budget on PPC to actually bring in customers rather than chase the pretty green bar for a feeling of self satisfaction when it says "PR5". Chase ranks, not pagerank.
