Paying for a load of high PR links...

Your thoughts please!

What does everyone think of paying for a load of high PR links - on pretty unrelated, but nevertheless OK websites. Incidentally, they are all American and the site I wish to promote is UK.

The idea is to place these links with the correct anchor text - in addition to regular SEO techniques, naturally..!

I don't see anything inherently wrong with the idea, other than the fact the sites are not directly related. I would be grateful for your thoughts...

Links from low PR related sites are more important than from unrelated high PR sites. Further, some high PR sites don't pass PR. Google may have some system for discounting the passing of PR. The toolbar PR is not a good indication of a page's real PR.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

The keyword we are going for is so competitive that we may try this method and keep the board posted...

We are also doing link dev with related sites (most of which do have low PR) but this way is too tempting - and the client can afford to try it!
