It'd be great to see some of you either add to, comment on or dispute the following items that I deem important in the grand scheme of link building:

- *All* links count in some way, shape or form.

- "You are who you link to"

- What kind of user wouldn't feel overwhelmed while looking at a page containing 100 links? Manage those links pages, people!

- Personalized e-mails are in, automation is out.

- Internal links are extremely important but hold much less weight than links pointing from external domains.

- 100 links from 1 domain is nothing compared to 1 link from 100 domains.

- Multiple links from the same C-class IP range are like votes for yourself. The idea of 'community' is non-existent. Therefore, they should be irrelevant.

- External linking shows authority. Going back to point #2, linking to quality content is always a good idea. Feel good about giving away a small amount of traffic for free to good websites. That's the way linking works.

- Varied anchor text is a critical factor. Different anchors and targets look genuine and less manufactured when there is no pattern to follow.

- One-way links hold more weight than reciprocals.

- Deep linking can be much more precise and genuine.

Finally:

- In what we do, we too often forget the user when making decisions on links. Be descriptive and precise to produce the best links possible for both the engine and, most importantly, the user.

A quick one,

- Get links spaced out over a period of time, than in bursts of 100s/1000s in a short span.
