Do you focus on requesting 1 keyword at a time, or multiple?

For use in Anchor Text

I'm about to start my first major link campaign, my site is totally SEO friendsly with xhtml/css, and I've based a couple primary pages focused for specific keywords.

Initially I thought it would probably just be a matter of personal preference, but now I'm wondering if there is any advantage to focusing on multiple keywords rather than just one, when you email webmasters for a link exchange.

For example, I have 3 main keywords I'd like to rank for. 33% of the emails I send out requesting backlinks would request "blue widget plan" - the other 33% I'd request "blue widget guide" and the remaining I'd request "blue widget reference" - is doing it this way BETTER than only focusing on one keyword all out, and then moving to another.

Thanks!

Yes definitly use more than one keyword and alternate. One of the things Google's Florida update did last year was to penalize all sites that use the same exact text link all over.

In addition, by using different text links you are imroving rankings for other keywords.

well i don't think i worded it correctly...

I ...know... it is important to optimize for multiple keywords... BUT is it best to focus on them all at the SAME TIME? or completely focus on one at one time, then once you got the amount of backlinks you want, then focus on another.

Rotate the anchors. I think that's what most people do. How you rotate it, whether serially or in batches of 100 each is up to you, I suppose. But it's still a rotation.
