I’m trying to determine the best “safe way” to link a number of sites so to develop text relevancy and link count.

I have roughly 10 sites and I plan to build others. Currently I have 1 primary site that has 300 plus internals pages. The domain is pr6 and the internal pages vary from pr5 to pr6. There are 5 other sites that have pr4 with internal pages ranging from 500 to 1,000 pages. The remaining sites are new. All sites have a footer that contain links to internal pages and to other sites.

At present the sites are all located on different servers with no block “C” conflict.

My linking strategy has been from the primary PR6 to the secondary PR4 sites and the new sites. Then through the use of the footer, I link each site to the next without overlap.

Linking Diagram

Pr6 to sites 1, 2, 3,,,,,,10

Site 1 to Site 2,3,4….10
Site 2 to Site 1, 3,4…10
Site 3 to Site 1,2, 4…10

I don’t reciprocate links back to the other sites.

I vary the keyword anchor text to each site. I also add a “links page” that contains links from outside sites.

In summary each site, except for the primary site, would end up having 10 one way links from the other sites. Example: “Site 1” would have links from the (PR6) site, and links to (Sites 2 through 10”)

Does this work?

Thanks

Seems quite complicated.

Do TRUE external links play into your plans at all? =)

Yes, I have a links page on each of the sites.

Would your example involve having side wide links from your primary site to these new sites (e.g. if the links are in the site's footer, would they appear on every page)? If so, I'd recommend against site wide links, especially if they are the primary links that will be pointed at the new sites at the beginning. I don't think that would look too natural. A link from the footer of the homepage only might be a good way to start.

They are side way links so they do appear on every page. If I look at the primary site it places roughly 100 to 200 links to the target site.

Looks like too many links from the PR6. I would make it just one (from home page or links page). Sitewide links have lots of bad press, and I have seen problems with sitewide links to clients sites from my own PR5/6 sites, in some cases even when not reciprocated - always hard to know for sure since there are so many variables, but looks most likely scenario.

I don't like the sound of this. My 2c
