How to force removal of unwanted back links

Perhaps a shrewd competitor set this up -- I just discovered that a group of 70 similarly looking poker-blackjack sites all have a home page link pointing to my relatively new insurance-themed web site.
The incoming links all have my keyword anchor text "Buy insurance" and all the sites are PR5 and PR6 - so they are UNFORTUNATELY indexed etc. The surrounding text and links for my site's link are poker- and gambling-related sites.

If I hover over these links they all show my site's URL. The source code reads:
<a href="http://www.my site.com" title="Buy insurance">Buy insurance</a>

If I right-click the links and open them in a new window the links go to my site.

However when I left-click the links they are all redirected to the same URL
[___casino___.com...]

So there is no traffic coming to my site from these links. There only purpose seems to be to spam me with wrongly themed (perhaps "bad neighborhood") links in the search engines.

What can I do?

The status bar can tell lies, with a little help from javascript. What exactly does the source code show you?

It certainly seems to be dodgy, and you may not have much luck in asking the owner to remove the links. But if there's a referrer id embedded, you could try reporting this behaviour to the website which is paying this affiliate. They may not be happy to be associated with such dodgy techniques, and might cancel his or her account.

These links may not help you, but they cannot hurt you either. You can just forget about it.
