How to know who's linking to our site?

Good morning,

I'm new to all this...Is there a tool I can use to find out what sites are currently linking to ours? I'd like to know (1) how many, and (2) who they are.

Thanks!

In google, you can type
link:yoursitename
and it should give you back a list of all of the sites which are linking to you.

Oh - and welcome to WW!

Welcome to Webmasterworld, Keeler...

Sorry nobody, the link command of G never displays all the sites that link to you. It only display samples of backlinks (Tradionally, G display links at PR4 or higher, but this recent backlink update, it appears to be the opposite).

For Keeler, there is no perfect tool on the web to give you an exact figure...my favorite is www.alltheweb.com with link:www.yoursitename - it should be able to give you a more accurate info and picture (it is also a good idea to cross check with others such as MSN and Altavista)

Yahoo vs alltheweb

BTW, I would like to point out the main difference in reporting of backlinks between these two.

Yahoo linkdomain does not support report of backlinks to a specific internal page whereas alltheweb does.

Yahoo reports all backlinks to a website and it sum up all links to internal pages to the main url. In contrast, Alltheweb seems to reports backlinks to the individual pages instead of only to the main url.

As a result, it depends upon what your interest is in finding the number of backlinks whether to the whole site or to an individual page. If to the whole site, then yahoo is by far superior and if to an individual page, then alltheweb will do its job.

In google you can type?www.yourdomain.com and it will come up with the pages that have your domain in print. Helpful?
