I have been searching google via
mykeyword add url
mykeyword suggest site
etc, etc.

Should I add to every directory that offers it to me and has a category for "mykeyword"?

Some directorys have PR or 2 or 3, some have 5.
Will I be penalized for adding to all the directories I find as long as they have a category for mykeyword.

Should I only add to the ones that have PR4 or above?

Thanks for any advice

There is nothing wrong with adding your site to appropriate directories regardless of their PR. You do want to be cautious with the directories that charge for a submission. Most of them tend to be fairly reasonable (a 1 time charge for a permanent listing), but not all of them are worth the money.

1) Make sure that their internal pages actually have PR (many do not because of complicated internal URLs).

2) Make sure the directory shows as a backlink for sites listed in it. Find a page with a PR of 4 or above and check the backlinks for the sites listed on that page. If none of the sites show that page as a backlink, it's very possible that it won't be counted and may not be worth submitting if there is a fee involved (of course this is only for Google, and it still may be worth it for Yahoo and future MSN rankings so check backlinks shown in there as well).

Adding your link anywhere won't hurt your rankings.

Even adding your link to the most played-out FFA on the web won't hurt. The reasoning being that a competitor could just add your link somewhere in an attempt to hurt your rankings.

Just be carefull who you link out to.

Inbound links will help to varying degrees. PR is one of the factors that affect this.

I would suggest adding your link anywhere you can. But to save time look for sites that have PR (and don't show signs of having been banned) and don't block outbound links wil javascript. Having said that even if a site has a PR0, it may just be new.

Good luck.
