Backlinks don't appear to return links?

Probably missing something obvious...

Hi all

I often notice that, when searching through competitor's backlinks, that when I go to the page that should have a backlink on it to the competitor, and even though that page may be deep, I can't find a return link.

Am I missing something obvious, as I fear?

Could be that the link has since been removed, or the site that is doing the linking is cloaking.

Check googles cache of the page.

Well, I'm pretty sure they're not cloaked, so it must be that they're no longer linked to.

I always find it easy to forget about the fact that nothing is 'realtime' about this game.

Yes, I always search thru the source file for a snippet of the link

Backlinks can get pretty stale after removal.
