Links in drop down boxes

There was a very old thread about this and I wondered what the current state of play was.

If I have to use a select box what is the most search engine way to do it?

Current state of play is no different. Spiders can follow links in your drop-down boxes.

Do you know of any examples where I can test this using a spider simulator? I am just trying to get the code right.
