Links and IP addresses

How valuable are links from the same IP addresses?

Hi All,

I do some optimization work for a Webmaster. He asked me to help him with promoting a spam product for emails that he is trying to sell on a new website he built.

After optimizing his pages as far as he would let me. I informed him that we need to get some links pointing to his new website.

He is hosting over 1000 websites and of course they are all on the same server. His question to me was if he puts a link from a number of his clients websites pointing to his new website, would the links be worth very much to Goggle and other search engines being from the same IP address?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

The SEs become smarter everyday, though we do think the opposite sometimes.

I wouldn't risk having more than a certain, low percentage of links from the same IP my site is on. Also from the same class-C net is a bit scary to me. If you can, make it as natural as possible.

Linking from the same IP worked for me. 1 link from one site on the server to the other resulted in a 0 PR to 3 (related content).

However, the bots may get suspicious if theres alot of sites linking from the SAME ip.

...if he puts a link from a number of his clients websites pointing to his new website...

I'm sure you received permission before you try that. But it still bears mentioning that there was a scandal last week about a web host's subcontractor who put hidden links on their client's websites.

Hello,

I think it doesn't matter because there there are a lot (+10000) websites in the same IP linking to my website (my company's) and we have very good positions with a PR8 but the difference is that many others from other IP are linking too.

Imagine that all websites are linking together, it looks like a ring, but if 30% of the outlinks and backlinks are from different IP's, it doesn't appear like a ring and it looks natural.

So, according to me you can do it but don't forget to link to big websites like gg or dm*z and to earn links from others IP...
