I'd like to hear someone to list what kind of links should we really avoid.

IE:

Incoming links from link farms

What about links on dynamic pages? asp or php?
What about links that comes from another domain and a subdirectory: linksmanager/thesiteimexchanginglinkswith?
Any others?

I would say to try to avoid links from places you do not want to be associated with. I have heard that links from farms arent good either.

Everyone has told me on and on to trade links with sites that are similar or atleast relate to mine. I have done the complete opposite and its working out great. I accept links from sites that have already been indexed by the search engines.

I think of it like this, if you want to be popular, you are going to have to prove your popularity...and the backlinks do that. Its all about the anchor text. Anchor text is the key for serps.

Try and stay away from FFA's (Free For All's), penalized sites, and sites that are penalized. (usually determined by a white google PR bar on an established domain)

incoming links can not harm you.

Are you really sure about that sentence?

Crossing links with non google friendly sites can't either? I don't think so.

Maybe if you don't link to them doesn't harm you.
But if you cross links I'm pretty sure it will.

What? He isn't talking about cross linking. Incoming links do not hurt you. Yes if you link to a penalized site there can be problems.
