One of the main keywords of my site is 4000 (obviously as part of a phrase), and looking at my logs today I saw, for the first time, hits searching for that phrase but with a typo, 400 instead of 4000. Looking at the Google cache I saw that "400" was only found in links to my site.

Searchers make typos, and it is great to be able to capitalize on them without seeming illiterate. No profound message there, but I thought I should share the observation!

Logs are great site spellcheckers.

>>capitalize on them without seeming illiterate

I embarrassed by my misspells and insulted by blatant (intentional) ones, but I'm all ears. ;)

Google's spell checker came in pretty handy for me recently. I usually mis-type "Los Angeles" unless I review it carefully.

While checking on a client's ranking for a phrase that includes the name, Google asked, "Did you mean Los Angeles?" I found my client's site with a number one ranking for my preferred misspelling, "Los Angles." Fortunately, I don't think the client noticed. :)

It's probably better to be #1 for Los Angles than off the radar screen for Los Angeles... Might be a whole new topic here, "Finding Link Partners who Can't Spell". ;)

>>"Finding Link Partners who Can't Spell"

LOL. That's capitalizing on misspellings without seeming illiterate. Hmm, wonder if a misspelling directory would make any money. ;)

At the bottom of my page I put "Common misspellings - blah blah". I got number one for most of them. The most common misspelling was still down the page a little. I got one link with the mispelling and boom I am number one now. You would be suprised how competitive some misspellings are. One time I was number 2 and I sent an eamil to the guy that was number one and told him to fix his mistake and he did. That was funny.
