I am starting a new content rich site with around 200 pages, members profiles bla bla bla.

I am starting it's promotion from scratch, what are the basic steps i can take to get the traffic started?

Are Yahoo listings worth it? or would my $1000 launch budget (small i know), be best spent elsewhere?

Greatly appreciate any help!
Alex :)

my launch budget is $0 but i run not for profit sites so I can afford to wait for traffic to come to me. What I've found gets me traffic fastest is
1. Submit to dmoz
2. email every single site thats relivant to mine and ask for a link. I send about 50 emails per day for about a week.
3. Submit to as many directories that I can find a suitable category for my site.
4. Find usenet groups relevant to my site and post the link and description of the site.
5. Post link and description on forums that are suitable/relevant to my site.

Then wait.....and wait......and wait

Yup, there is no quick fix.

Links are a key player for all sorts of reasons.

Adding content so that your site is the authority in the category will see you on the right side of good with just a little effort.

Overall patience is the key, build great content and it will be rewarded in time. If you need a result in the next 4 weeks then you have to pay for it via sponsorship.
