well, title says it all. since im just new in this whole web business and never had a website before, I never paid attention to it. Do pages like the ones mentioned , with examples and code for different links, actually get used, or most of your link requests come through email? (or better yet, people just link to you without any prompting or resources mentioned above)?

Just curious if i should put up time to build a 'link to us' page. I tend to find it rather tacky, but one man's junk is another's gold.

In our small niche website people normally request by email, but we had to get noticed first.

I like having a link to us page. It allows someone with no knowedge to cut and paste html. Also it may be important to have the html link to us code inside of a text area. It makes it more like straight as if it was copying from notepad, so the code does not distort.

Some people will just link to you, if you have good content and enough traffic. Sometimes when surfing you can just ask for a link too. Not all websites require a recip link like a hobby site or personal page. Or even an online bookmark of pages.

It works for me. I get over 10-12 geniune links request. This shows how much people are looking for links. I also saw some Google Adwords only for getting links. Seems everybody is buying links. :-)

Uhm. I just got stickymailed by some random person about this site that is an auction site for links. The link was an affiliate link :) I wonder how much that was helpful note, vs profit note - (maybe it was a helpful, profit note :)).
