Links from unrelated pages, yea or nay?

Will it hurt/help you to get links from pages that have higher PR but have absolutely nothing to do with your subject? Will it be ignored?

They won't hurt because anyone could link to your site from any site on the web.

If the site has a high PR then you have everything to gain :)
