Trade PR7 for PR7, or PR7 for PR6 + PR5

Hi folks,

I got a PR7 site A, and an offer for a link trade with a PR7 site B. The site B guy says that if we link our PR7 sites together there won't be as much gained as could be, so instead he suggests my PR7 site A links to his PR7 site B, and he links back from two seperate sites C and D. These sites are only PR6 and PR5. Is this at all worth it for me?

Also generally speaking, is exchanging links with similar PRs beneficial?

Cheers,

Jeremy

I think all the my PR is bigger than yours is a load of ********

I think the question is more to with the quality of the link.

Can you get a link from an on topic page with good anchor text and surrounding text.
Will it be the only outbound from the page.

Two of them oh yes I would go for that.

Hi Terrier,

Thanks for the message, and I think you're dead right, it's the quality of the link that counts. The sites are very on-topic and not many outgoing, so I'll give it a whirl.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Jeremymgp, Terrier is right about becoming overly obsessed with PR. Having said that, there are a few issues to think about with this exchange. First, PR is a log scale, so a PR6 and PR5 almost certainly won't add up to a PR7. Then again, perhaps the PR6 is on the verge of being a PR7 and the PR7 is marginal and in danger of sliding to a PR6 if it loses one link. Another consideration is that non-reciprocal linkage MAY prove better in the long run than straight exchanging of links. Sooo... do what makes sense for your visitors. ;)

Links from similar PR sites will help your site's PR, though obviously links from higher PR sites will have a larger impact.

Crisscross linking is an excellent way to get one way links. Go for it.

Hi rogerd,

Thanks for the reply. I realised that the PR6 + PR5 wouldn't add up to so much, but they are relevant to users, my PR7 is new and the links are non-reciprocal, so I thought it was worth a shot.

"Links from similar PR sites will help your site's PR, though obviously links from higher PR sites will have a larger impact."

Ok, sure, but what if similar PR7 sites link to each other from their index pages, will they both benefit much? Again, looking at things from the user's point of view might be best.

Cheers,

Jeremy
