Is it better to have an incoming link coming to your home page and then have your home page linking to your site map and other sub pages? Or is it better to have an incoming link go directly to a sub page to help that sub page?

Good Question, Currently I use a reference page for outgoing links. I have been trying to creat link backs to my home page. I think that it would depend on who the link back was from as to which page you would want to link to. But that is just my opinion and I am a new bie.

Both:)

Get the high PR links going to your home page as this will allow Pr to flow through your site, plus I would assume your home page is targetting agressive terms.

For minor PR links aim them to similar themed pages withn your site, with the correct anchor text for that page.

IE home page inbound link from a PR6 page, aim this at your front page that is targetting the word "hotel". PR3 link with theme on Sacremento, aim this link at the Sacremento hotel page with the anchor text Sacremento hotles.

As dougs recommends, both kinds of links are helpful. Home page links are good for maximizing site PR and facilitating distribution. I've had some good luck with internal links, though. On one small site (with no organized links campaign) an internal page has higher PR than the home page due to some nice direct linkage.

I am trying this philosopy out - linking on my home page to other home pages and vice versa. I will let you know how it goes when google updates in 2007. =\

It is also at the same time GOOD to have a NICE HTML sitemap of your website. Use the best of your keywords as your link text and get links to your homepage.

If you have plenty of them, probably you can share some just for teh sitemap page. And then when the sitemap page has a nice PR, it gets you a lot of traffic and that traffic can flow to several pages on your website and also the PR is passed.
