LookSmart and Opera 5

Is anyone else seeing this?

When I go to LookSmart using Opera 5 I get a list of text links, a big empty space that scrolls for a while, then a normal LookSmart footer at the bottom. When I access the site in IE5 it works fine. Has anyone else noticed this?

As close as I can figure, LookSmart is detecting browsers and redirecting. Why is Opera being served a stripped down (screwed up) page?

My uneducated GUESS would be it's a CSS issue.

I wish we could post images here so I could show a screen shot of what I'm talking about.

It's possible that is CSS related, but I haven't had that problem with any other site while using Opera.

Good question. It probably has to do with the differences O/IE render pages. Can't really provide technical details (help tedster!), but you will find many large websites discriminating against other (better :)) browsers.

You can remedy this by identifying as IE or Mozilla (Alt+P, connections, Browser Identification). Life ain't fair...

I use Opera all day long, and LookSmart is the only site I've seen with a dramatic difference (compared to IE).

I'm going to leave my browser identifier on "Opera" because I want LookSmart to see that indentifier in their logs. Maybe then they'll change their site to support it.

I guess I could just send them an e-mail. It's not a big deal, I guess. Like I said, it's just the first time I've seen such a dramatic difference since I've been using Opera.

I've forwarded this to the Opera developers and the html guy at Looksmart. Something should get done about it soon.

Give it a try now with Opera 5.10. I think all is as it should be now. Thanks to both Opera and Looksmart for the changes.
