Opera Updates v6.05 with Security Fixes

Opera has released an updated version of its outstanding v6.05. This is in addition to the release last week [webmasterworld.com] that updated Opera v7.02.

At first, a Opera senior programmer said they did not have plans to update the older v6.05. Upon further review and huge interest in such an update, Opera addressed the issues and released the update just this morning. The new version is labled 6.06.

Excellent news - thanks Brett! I've been using k-meleon since hearing here about the Opera security problem with 6.05. K-meleon is nice, but I've been missed some of opera's features. Going to the link right away to download the update. Yippeeee!

See what masses of small comments can do :D w00t for new update! Opera news made me smile this morning. Although wanting to fade out old versions this can only be done if the new version addresses all the past bugs also.

Eeek - just tried to install and I'm getting

"An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is usually caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file"

followed by another box saying there's a bad installation file, which I can't go beyond.

Anyone else getting this or is it just me?

Thanks - I downloaded it again and re-tried installing and everything went perfectly this time. I've been playing around with using new buttons for the first time and got Opera looking really nice now.

Somehow I've lost the box that allowed you to search within a webpage (I can get it by going to "Edit..Find" but my old version of 6.05 had a box which was always visible - think it was where the "Opera support search" box is now). Still, that's just a tiny thing - very gratful to Opera for doing the security fix.

File > Preferences > Browser layout > (check) Show search field and button.

View > Main bar > Full.

If you don't see it then your button set doesn't have it (I'd think). Play with another set. ;)

Thanks Toadhall - that gives me a button to click for a "find in page" search but my previous 6.05 had an inbuilt "find in page" search box which was always there (similar to the "google search" box and the amazon and ebay search boxes). I've just figured that I can change the "google search" box to a "find in page" search box by:

File > preferences > search and selecting the "Find in page" option.

This leaves me with no google search box but I've still got a "super search" box and I've just noticed that entering:

g searchterm

in the url address box will do a google search for searchterm

That'll do nicely :-)
