So...just called Yahoo. They said it means your account earnings are under review and they do it before they process checks.

Well, "account under review" and "state not known" are two very very different things. It's like Virginia never existed or Yahoo folks haven't heard that it existed!

Actually the word 'state' has more than one meaning. The meaning they mean is:
A condition or mode of being.
In that case, it makes perfect sense as to 'the current state is unknown'.
