Why the concern over spider ip's?

Excuse my ignorance on subject, but why is it that the spider ip's are in such demand? What information do you get from it or what do you do with it?

IPs are simply more valuable than user_agents because they cannot be faked as easily. A cloaking script that relies on IPs will be far more effective than a UA based script.

So you cloak scripts that are aimed at getting better placement? Am I correct in assuming that this cloaked script is meant to be only available to spiders?

That is the point of cloaking. To hide the content from competitors and deliver customize content to specific se's.
