Many times when we attempt to reply or forward an e-mail the formatting bar in OE is not there and the formatting functions in the drop down are greyed out. This is just on some e-mails.

Is there any way to force OE to allow formatting on these e-mails?

The real problem is that many of the links in our e-mails are not working when the customer receives them. I don't know why. When you hold the mouse over the link the hand comes up but when you click it nothing happens.

I can resolve the problem by using the hyperlink button in the formatting bar to make sure the links are there & active however when there is no formatting bar I have to create a new e-mail to be sure they are working. Very time consuming.

Computer has XP Pro SP2 & OE 6 SP2.

Possibly related... This might happen when the original email was sent in Plain Text instead of Rich Text (HTML). When replying to messages like that, I'll sometimes Select All, Go to Format and select Rich Text. You'll have to do some cleanup.

Keep in mind that if you are replying to someone who sent you a Plain Text email in the first place, they probably don't accept HTML email and any formatting you do in the reply will be lost on their end.

<added> After reading this again, you may have another issue I'm not familiar with. I use OE daily and have been for years.

I can resolve the problem by using the hyperlink button in the formatting bar to make sure the links are there & active however when there is no formatting bar.

That formatting bar disappears when replying to Plain Text emails.

Thanks Page1.

We will try this.

Many of the plain text e-mails are from Hotmail so it shouldn't hurt to send back a rich text reply.
