"Hotmail users who use the Outlook or Outlook Express mail client to check their webmail will soon be forced to pay for the honor, reports the BBC. Users who want to continue using Outlook will have to pay $19.95 for an annual subscription to Hotmail Plus or the $99.95 a year for MSN Premium. Microsoft says it has decided to start charging for the service because it was being abused by spammers. The change went into effect yesterday for new users, and will become effective for all users worldwide in 2005, after the company has given users ample"

I thought they got rid of POP access, in the free hotmail, quite awhile ago?

It was not POP3 access to hotmail - they used WebDAV.

Free mail - you get what you pay for, no reason to complain about.
