Microsoft has also managed to upset women and entire countries. A Spanish-language version of Windows XP, destined for Latin American markets, asked users to select their gender between "not specified," "male" or "bitch" because of an unfortunate error in translation.

Accurate for my ex-girlfriend, maybe, but not for the masses.

Microsoft is one of the most internationally aware software companies in existence. They ship software in at least 40 languages. The particular Spanish translation in the article was one that in most dialects of Spanish meant female, but in one particular country meant something more, well, acerbic.

In the original Windows 95, you could set your time zone by clicking on the map. This was a very cool feature. However, as Microsoft discovered, any time you show a world map, you can get in trouble, because certain regions are always in dispute.

Nah, guys, it's for women like me - whose middle name is generally that word which refers to a female dog.... or sometimes with a "w" instead of a "b"....

Bumper snickers on the shell window of my truck: "My OTHER car is a broom!" and "Practice safe government: Use KINGDDMS"....
