How to Find Device Drivers?

How to find drivers for "generic" hardware?

Hi all,

I'm looking for the drivers for a generic 802.11g wireless PCI card (Desktop). I can't seem to find the CD anywhere and I'm not having any luck finding anything online.

Can anyone tell me how I can identify the chipset and get working drivers? Is there a driver repository some where on the net?

Thanks!
Erik

go to the vendors website, look for a support or download related place they always have driver downloads.

If it is really generic and you have no idea who really made it start googling model numbers and/or serial numbers.

This whole process it either going to be very easy, or a manhunt! GOOD LUCK

If this was something that came with a desktop then try that vendor's site (Dell, HP, IBM, etc.) If you can't find anything there or from J_RaD's suggestions then I did find a few driver repositories by searching for the keywords "device drivers". There are a few free and pay sites that offer databases full of drivers.

it should at least hve an fcc id number on it, that should lead you to the manufacturer...

Look at the card itself. It will have a big chip on it with a manufaturer's name. Get the numbers and the name and start searching.
