windows xp euro date format

the date's on windows xp (on my pc) are currently showing up as 8/1/2006 when i'm browsing ftp or other programs that show numerical dates. how can i set it so it shows as 1/8/2006?

sorry for the noob question, i didn't install winxp on this pc :)
