SP2 downloaded

but I didn't install

I thought it best to wait until I heard nothing but good news about it's performance. It downloaded sometime during the night and I denied the installation. Btw, what are the odds that we would ever hear "nothing but good news" about this patch? Call me paranoid I suppose.

I installed sp2 last week on a valid xp machine - straight after the upgrade all audio and video playback jutters and stutters. I tried new drivers, but nothing worked. In the end I restored winsows back to a point before the upgrade - and it's still the same. Everything else on the machine works as before. I've tried a new audio card and same results again. What sp2 has done to the machine I don't know, vut it's left me with a machine no food for anything but web browsing and writing socuments - anything involving sound and vision is our. Windows says everything is ok - no conflicts etc. Microsoft are responsible, in my opinion, for destroying a perfectly good pc. SP2 - don't touch it.

If you check EULA (End User License Agreement) then you will find they are not responsible for anything ;)

SP2 works fine on my PC, however it appears that chances of having issues are pretty high - 1 in 10. In addition to this some serious problems (again apparently) can be had IF you have spyware already on your PC.
