Does anyone know of a way to install Internet Explorer 2 in Windows XP? I would like to see how bad my pages look (just curiousity - I don't think there are many surfers using it anymore!) When I run the install program, it tells me Win95 is required. When I switch to Win95 compatibility mode, I get a missing DLL error. Has anyone managed to make this work?

I don't think there is a clean way to get IE 2 into XP that has been documented. We do have great instructions on how to get IE 5.01 & 5.5 here: How to: Install multiple versions of IE on your PC [webmasterworld.com]. However WinXP SP2 "breaks" the functionality of running multiple versions of Internet Explorer. (Full versions of IE working in XP SP2 [webmasterworld.com]) I wasn't able to get multiple installs of IE working on my main XP workstation after installing SP2.

However, there is hope. If you're the type of person who would actually consider adding IE 2 to your machine just to test things out, then you sound like a good candidate to run virtual PC type software. The biggest names for this software are VMware and Microsoft's Virtual PC (which they bought from Connectix). I use this sort of software to run virtual operating systems complete with outdated browsers. It's a much safer testing environment because you don't need to touch your main system at all.

Thanks, I'll look into those solutions. Does anybody have a different solution?

Have you tried the old Deja-Vu browser emulator (emulates IE2, among others). It's not perfect but it's close.

I think this link is well enough known not to be moderated out: [dejavu.org...]
