White letters on white desktop

black desktop letters?

I have a plain white wallpaper with a simple central design, and now need to make the icon text black or dark gray. where is this switch?

I believe it is
Control Panel > Display > Appearance tab > Advanced button

I'm using Windows Classic style with the standard color scheme.. and in the icon setting, the color selector is grayed-out... anyway to work around it in some way?

Actually in this case you would want to turn off XP's use of drop shadows for icon labels and then make the desktop background a light color to match your image. The font color for icon text is controlled by the background then.

The drop shadows can be switched off here:
