XP connecting to Mac Server

I have a question that I have a feeling few are going to be able to answer, but here goes. Here at the office, we have a mostly Macintosh environment, except for a small group of PC's. Now before I get carried away, I am posting this in the "Microsoft Windows OS" Forum because I believe this to be a problem on a specific XP machine, as none of the other Windows machines are experiencing any trouble.

When I try to connect to the "MacServer" via "My Network Places" I get one of the following two errors. Now they change at random, I tried to see if there was a pattern as to how often I get one message compared to the other... But like I said it came back random. The messages are:

"The specified network name is no longer available"

"The specified server cannot perform the requested operation"

The Mac server is made to run seamlessly with Windows, and it always has, and still does for the other machines in the office, so I feel I have to be looking at this PC.

Any input on things to check for server connectivity would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!

Is it possible that you have the XP firewall on and it is blocking access to your server?

Bill, I don't have the firewall on any of the Widows machines, being we have a main firewall set up at one of the routers. I apprecieate your reply ... Any other suggestions?

Have you tried to delete the network connection on the XP box, and recreating?

I'm not sure here. Are you able to PING the MacServer from your XP machine? If not, then it may be a connectivity issue. There may be a plug or wire loose. If you can PING it then I'd assume something is amiss with the XP networking. Then trying something like mattglet's suggestion would be a good step.

Ok will try that and report back.. This might take a while, I am not as competent on PC's as I am Mac... (Next on list research HOW to delete network connection) lol

<added>BTW, the thing can use the internet and receive email, but just for kicks I did try a ping, and it worked.</added>

Windows Update Hotfix K885250 will break Windows access to a MAC server. Uninstall that if it is there and that should fix it.
