Weird connection problem

Hi

Something strange has happened to my PC today.

When I use Outlook Express or IE6 the system connects to the internet fine (hence ability to create this posting).

But if I try and use anything else to connect to the internet (MS Query Analyzer, MSN Messenger, Visual Basic etc..) I cannot get an internet connection.

I did play around with msconfig and stop a couple of start up programs, but I have checked them again and allowed them to start up and then rebooted again.

I can't get any real work done until I get this sorted and I don't know who to contact to sort it out, so any ideas greatfully received.

Sorry Mods, you can remove this one...it was a Firewall issue, I should have checked that first.

Sounds like your firewall is blocking those apps. You'll probably want to make sure those programs are in the approved list.

Just a wee bit late there Bill, thanks for the reply anyway.

All the programs are on the allowed list, but the (eTrust) Firewall still won't let them through.

I've enabled the XP firewall and disabled the eTrust firewall for the moment at least it will let me get some work done.
