I have paintshop on my system but I haven't opened it in months. Today all image icons are showing with the paintshop icon instead of photoshop - even ones I created in PS today!
Tried going into control panel > folder options > file types and changing the the file type to PS but even though the icon changed in the control panel box and I checked all files, they still show the PSP icon when viewing thumbnails in the folder index.
I'm still on XP SP1. Any idea what I did to cause the icons to change from PS to PSP (they were correct as of yesterday)?
don't know where to look for it, but the PS icon is somewhere on hd because it shows for TIFF files, just not for PSD or JPG files.
I found one site that suggested dowloading psicon.dll to Program Files > Common Files > Adobe > Shell but it is already there and was accessed today.
I haven't downloaded anything, installed anything, or changed any preferences since yesterday when all was fine.
Oh, groan! I soooo dislike windows
I set them to open with PS (even though the icon didnt change) and for awhile clicking the file wouldn't open it in PS. Instead it would open the file in the Windows & Fax viewer and only open the file in PS after clicking the edit option in the Windows & Fax viewer. Very strange as I've never used the W & F viewer before!
Don't know what I did, but after re-running TweakUI a couple of times to "repair" and re-setting the folder options numerous times, I can now open the file in PS by clicking the jpg (still showing a psp icon) or psd file.
Perhaps I did pick up a virus someplace although NIS didn't find it last night so I'm running TrendMicro's online virus scanner. If it doesn't find anything I think I'll install AVG to see what it finds.
My plan today was to spend some time updating the s/w for my Nikon but I never got there! more groaning and whining and at this point I'd almost ruther have a good rant instead.
