They only go to the out box if there is no recognized Internet connection.
If you are connected they should just post as soon as you click send.

It's controlled in Outlooks options. In the menu toolbar, select:
Tools -> Options
Mail Setup Tab

There is usually a checkbox for "Send immediately when connected"
If you check this, then items won't go to the Outbox, but will be sent immediately. I typically don't do this as I often make mistakes and want to catch them before they get sent. Or sometimes I rethink my wording and wish I wouldn't have sent it already ;)

Check:

Tools/Options/Preferences/Email Options/ and look at "Message handling". See if "Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder" is checked.

I think Stefan has your answer here. I purposely have my replies stored in the folder from which they were sent, so those don't end up in the Sent folder. A lot of people prefer this setting for archival purposes. I think the default Outlook setting is to have everything sent saved to the Sent folder though.

sorry folks; outbox = sent box ....

What do you mean? I have both, the outbox is not set to send immeddiately so I have about a minute to retreive an error. When it has actually been sent it goes to the sent folder.

Please ignore this question, I misread your post</edit>

my messages are not going to my send box regardless if the options mentioned above are selected. I've tried all the options without success..

Perhaps you could search for an email with particular text or subject on your HD, to see if the path has changed somehow and they're winding up in the wrong folder. Send one to yourself with "test-sendbox", or similar, as the subject.

As a last resort, you could back-up all your messages, and reinstall it, (make sure you have the reg# etc)

I often want to file an incoming letter before replying and move it from INBOX. Later, if I find that letter and reply, the reply may not be sent and the sent letter may appear in a file other than "sent".

So, I end up copying letters I want to reply to over to IN or DRAFT before replying in order that thay are sent and appear in the SENT file. I mean really....

It's in Microbesoft's knowledgebase: something to do with multiple mail accounts - no fix there. Perhaps someone else has found us a work around?

I GOT IT FOLKS!

My clock was set back a year (not sure why); therefore the messages where being sent to my sent box however, ordering them by date put the most recent messages at the bottom.

You think I can sue Microsoft for mental stress and disorder? wheres my lawyer!?

I've found some wacky problems and fixed them but the clock thing is a new one.
Thanks for the thread, one more thing to remember:)
