"Wooohooo", I thought, "here is the obvious place to ask for advice" so here I am asking for help and assistance :)
We are just about to move into new offices and looking at doing away almost entirely with PSTN telephone lines (need to keep a couple for SDSL and backup reasons) and going 100% VoIP. I've been looking at a lot of the systems out there and have pretty much come to the point of view of not running it in ourselves and outsourcing the whole lot - ala virtual Centrex.
I should say we run 99.9% Linux machines, both on the desktop and servers all in an OpenMosix cluster.
I have been looking at the 8*8 virtual office system with unlimited EU and North American calling to handle our outgoing traffic and enabling North American incoming calls.
I don't think this is ideal as we also need UK incoming numbers (though happy to have non geographic 0800, 0845, 0870 etc. to enable this functionality)
The only equivalent UK system I can find is run by Gradwell.com though the functionality and costs don't seem to stack up.
The minimum requirements are as follows:
DDI for each extension
Programmable IVR system
Ability to record calls, including conferences
PSTN and SIP/H323 forwarding
Looking through the offerings it appears that I haven't come across anything that can do what we want in a hosted environment so it looks like combining a couple of VoIP providers for incoming and outgoing traffic and managing these and the backup PSTN lines using Asterisk.
Do any of you have some advice or alternatives for me to look at?
Alternatively do you think I am way off base in my thinking?
If you need something budget then forget linux servers and go for a more practical less expensive solution such as IPO (IP Office)
If you do want to run linux servers then look for MultiVantage, you can go for something that has local survivable processors or go for dual servers like the S8700.
Today VoIP means you can get the solution that fits your exact need ;)
That is what IP is all about.
