Uninstall Brother print service?

I have Windows XP Pro on my laptop and desktop. I upgraded my desktop to SP2 yesterday and it went fine, it actually runs better now. The laptop on the other hand didn't go as well. I updated it and i get 2 services that fail. One is my modem service 'SmartLinkService' and the other is a printer driver that i dont even use 'brsplservice' for a Brother printer.

Now I am pretty good with the registry and removing services etc... but when I try to disable this service from starting up when windows starts using msconfig, the system will not even start up it just hangs after the login screen.

So I restored to before I had SP2 and all is fine, but I still cant get rid of that Brother Print Service.

Any ideas...I did a Google search and didn't find anything that helped.

Probably your best bet is to write to Brother support. They should have tested systems using SP2 and their drivers -- They may have a fix on their site in the Knowledge BAse, or whatnot.

As for removing the service, you may be able to get somewhere with Regsvr32 [support.microsoft.com] although I haven't played around with it too much, but you can uninstall server components with that command line interface. You may be able to remove the brother stuff if you can find the service/server name.
