Hi I run a business which calls for 99% uptime, don't we all(?), with about 10 sites on. Traffic to all 10 sites is on about 10K a day, fairly heavy mysql usage as we use CMS, but not too much streaming going on.

I am very dissapointed with my current dedicated hosting plan and need some good advise on who to go to for an inexpensive plan with excellent service... I used to feel they were a good company and helpful, but recently I feel they are trying to squeeze more and more out of me. I need quality independant advice.

Couple things...

1. It is considered good practise to have mysql seperate from the http?

2. What specific detials would I need to fully analise the type of dedicated box specification I need for my sites to cope?

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid this post won't be a great deal of help to you (I'm really not qualified to give advice on this topic), but I think that when you're looking for an

"Inexpensive plan with excellent service"

you're off to a very bad start. If your hosting matters, then I'd start looking for plans that give you excellent service - then afterwards look at how much it's going to cost you.
