Does anyone know of some software I could use that would run a check on a computer and then spit out data like what OS is running and how large the hard drive is...what processer, video card, etc etc etc...any ideas...seems I've got searchers block and cannot for the life of me think of the correct search terms.

Hi Katieray,

it may depend on the computer system.

An easy and convenient way:
On small INTEL-architecture PC-like systems you may boot off a Knoppix live CD (or any other Linux live CD) to get detailed information about all system hardware.

To know what OS is normally running on a box, you have to boot and watch while it is running.
Or you may use some network tools to try to detect the type of OS from the outside (which may often work and sometimes not).

Regards,
R.

I like a program named Belarc Advisor.
It gives the low down on hardware and software on any Windows machine.
